What is American Police Veterans?   American Police Veterans is a voluntary association organization. American Police Veterans is an organization dedicated to the issues and needs of America's former law enforcement officers from departments and agencies across the country. 

Who started American Police Veterans?   Sgt. George Brown retired IODD from the Plainville Massachusetts Police Department started American Police Veterans on 3-4-05 to offer peer advocacy and support for retired and disabled police officers. Contact George. 

What do American Police Veterans call themselves?  They are Policevets 

Is American Police Veterans a non profit organization? We are currently a voluntary association. We will be incorporating as a non profit in the near future. 

Does American Police Veterans solicit charitable donations? No.  However, we do ask that readers of  Beyond The Shield give a dollar or two if they have felt that the information was helpful or informative.  Donate buttons can be found on Beyond The Shield.

 Who can join American Police Veterans?  American Police Veterans who have served in a municipal, county, state, US Federal or DoD law enforcement organization. We also welcome family and friends who have identified themselves as supporting Policevets. 

What issue has generated the most interest in American Police Veterans?   Most former police officers have found themselves abandoned by their coworkers, department or agency, the government and the people that they served. American Police Veterans assist fellow officers and/or their families in times of emergency, personal crisis or other critical need. At the present time we can only offer peer support and identification of resources.  

What are the dues? At the present time, there are no dues. 

Does American Police Veterans publish a newsletter?  Beyond The Shield The Journal of the American Police Veterans,  beyondtheshield.org  is an online journal. Members and the community are invited to submit articles to the editor. Articles should be no longer than 500 words. News and informational briefs of 100 words or less are also welcomed. 

How do I join the American Police Veterans?  Join the PoliceVets Forum   and/or PoliceVets Group. The Forum and the Group are easily accessed from any page . It is recommended that you join both the Forum and the Group.

 What problems have members encountered with the Forum?  Several people have had a problem enrolling in the forum. Failure to accept the terms and conditions check block terminates the signup process. Additionally, posting messages and navigating requires more skill than the Group.

 What problems have members encountered with the Group?  The group is an open topic email driven exchange. Some members have found that their email is overflowing occasionally. The solution is to modify your yahoo account to accept daily digests, or special notices only. If you choose special notices only, you can read your messages at  Policevets Group at your convenience.

Some members would rather not read certain threads or topics. The daily digest option sends a single email message with up to 25 individual messages. The beginning of the message there is a list of the message topics and senders allowing the reader to jump to the messages of interest.

Does American Police Veterans offer logo products? American Police Veterans offers products through two vendors. The XcopShop offers a large variety of logo products. 

If I feel uncomfortable discussing an issue in the Forum or Group who can I contact?  Much of the peer advocacy and support is done behind the scenes. Contact George Brown  for an off group discussion.  You can also send other members a private message or email through the Forum. The Group members can be emailed from the Group directory. and Forum directories.

How can I participate in the American Police Veterans? American Police Veterans welcomes you participation. We are an open group that allows the membership to drive the discussions and content of beyond the shield. Create a leadership role by speaking often while being informative on those topics that interest you. American Police Veterans is also looking for skilled people to volunteer in web design, editorial content, advocacy and support.
